Police Arrest Analyst Who Accused Katsina Govt Of Sponsoring Bandits For Hajj
Police in Katsina State have arrested security analyst Bashir Kurfi after allegations he made about the state government and some former bandit leaders.
The case followed Kurfi’s claim during a television interview that the Katsina State Government sponsored former bandit leaders to perform Hajj in Saudi Arabia. The government had denied the allegation and demanded evidence.
Punch quoted the Katsina police spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, as saying Kurfi was arrested after a formal complaint from the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Nasir Mu’azu.
Daily Post reported that Kurfi appeared at the police command headquarters on Tuesday after being invited for questioning. It said he later declined to make further statements until his lawyers arrived.
Police said the matter had moved to court. The reports did not state the final charges at the time they were filed, and attempts to get comments from Kurfi, his lawyers and the state government were unsuccessful.
