Plateau Plans 5,000 Cameras, Drones For Security Surveillance
The Plateau State Government says it plans to install about 5,000 surveillance cameras, deploy drones and operate a command-and-control centre as part of a wider security monitoring plan.
Secretary to the State Government Samuel Jatau disclosed the plan in Jos while briefing journalists on Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s policy direction, according to Vanguard.
Jatau said the initiative is designed to improve intelligence gathering, response time and community safety across the state.
He said federal and state representatives had inspected surveillance equipment in China ahead of deployment.
According to the SSG, Plateau already operates drones and a central command-and-control system intended to provide real-time intelligence to security agencies.
The announcement comes amid repeated security concerns in parts of Plateau, where communities have continued to call for faster response and better protection.
Jatau urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security operatives, describing communities as important stakeholders in the state’s security architecture.
The update should be read as a deployment and status follow-up rather than the first mention of Plateau’s surveillance plan, which has been discussed in earlier state-security coverage.
The state government did not give a firm installation completion date in the cited reports.
