PDP dissolves Kano executive and puts North-West caretaker team in charge

The Peoples Democratic Party has dissolved its Kano State Working Committee and asked the North-West Caretaker Committee to oversee the party’s affairs in the state.

The decision took effect immediately, according to a letter dated September 24, 2026 and signed by the PDP National Organising Secretary, Umar Bature. The letter said only the state executive was affected, while ward and local government executives remain in place.

The dissolved committee was chaired by Bello Gambo Bichi. Punch and Daily Trust reported that Bichi accepted the decision and described it as part of efforts to settle internal disputes within the party in Kano.

The reports said the move followed a reconciliation process in which former governorship candidate Muhammad Bello Dalhatu stepped aside for Muhammad Sani Abacha. Bichi said the North-West caretaker structure would run the Kano chapter until a caretaker executive is formed or a new state executive is elected.

The change comes as the PDP continues to reposition its state structures ahead of the 2027 election cycle, with Kano remaining one of the party’s closely watched battlegrounds in the North-West.
