PCN Seals 505 Illegal Drug Premises In Cross River

The Pharmacy Council of Nigeria has sealed 505 illegal and non-compliant drug premises in Cross River State after a four-day enforcement exercise.

The council said teams inspected 602 premises across 10 local government areas and found that 48.3 percent were operating outside its regulatory framework.

Daily Post and Punch reported that the sealed premises included 291 illegal outlets, 54 pharmacies and 160 patent medicine stores found to have breached regulatory requirements.

Premium Times reported that PCN Director of Enforcement Suleiman Chiroma disclosed the figures at a news conference in Calabar. He said the exercise was carried out under the directive of the council’s registrar, Ibrahim Ahmed.

The council said the findings raise public-health concerns because unregistered medicine outlets can expose residents to unsafe, fake or poorly handled drugs.
