Over 6,000 NDC members defect to PDP in Enugu
More than 6,000 members of the Nigeria Democratic Congress have defected to the Peoples Democratic Party in Enugu State.
The group was led by Godwin Obasi and received by PDP leaders in Enugu on Saturday. The report said the defectors came from the state’s 260 wards and 17 local government areas.
Obasi said the members left the NDC after the party picked candidates they considered unpopular for elective positions. He said the move to the PDP was their choice and would take effect from the reception.
PDP governorship candidate Uche Nnaji told the defectors they would be accommodated in the party. He accused the current state government of failing to meet promises and said the opposition needed wider support before the 2027 election cycle.
The defection adds another layer to Enugu’s early political realignments as parties continue to organise ahead of the next general elections.
