Former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has inaugurated two major projects in Bayelsa State: the 6.72km Agbura-Oxbow Lake Road and the Oporoma Referral Hospital in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Osinbajo described Bayelsa’s development as “emotional,” noting the road ends 60 years of isolation for riverside communities that previously relied solely on boats for transportation.

The project traces back to 2022 when Governor Douye Diri flagged off the Angiama-Oporoma bridge across River Nun. Osinbajo recalled his doubts during the groundbreaking, saying “it was just all forests that we saw that day.”

“Not only has he proved to be a man of his word, but that bridge also stands there today,” Osinbajo said. He noted the road connects several government facilities including the NCDMB Towers, Federal Secretariat, and CBN headquarters in Yenagoa.

Governor Diri said the construction provided jobs to hundreds of young people from neighbouring communities. He added that President Tinubu had recently visited to inaugurate the bridge, though Osinbajo was abroad at the time.
