Ondo university unions suspend strike after state intervention
Workers’ unions in Ondo State-owned universities have suspended their strike after a financial intervention by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
The Joint Action Committee of Ondo State-owned Tertiary Institutions directed members to resume duty on Tuesday, September 29. The affected institutions are Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko; Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa; and the University of Medical Sciences, Ondo.
The strike began on September 2 over unpaid allowances and the non-implementation of federal wage agreements, according to Premium Times. The committee said the suspension followed the governor’s intervention in the dispute.
Daily Trust reported that ASUU’s Adekunle Ajasin University branch chairman, Boluwaji Oshodi, confirmed the suspension and said a congress had been scheduled to direct members to resume academic activities.
The joint committee, led by Tayo Ogungbeni and Kunle Akinwonmi, also asked university managements to address non-financial parts of the federal government and unions’ agreement to avoid another disruption.
