NSCDC Arrests 10 Students Over Banned Sign-Out Celebration In Adamawa

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Adamawa State has arrested 10 secondary school graduates over an alleged banned sign-out celebration.

The command said its Safe School Response Squad made the arrests after intelligence reports of disruptive activities linked to students from Capital School, GDSS Demsawo, Doubelli and Damilu.

According to the reports, the students were accused of painting their bodies, tearing school uniforms, fighting in the street and taking part in other activities the command said could disturb public peace.

The NSCDC said the arrests followed a state government ban on such celebrations. The command’s spokesperson, DSC Nyako Amidu Baba, said the trend had become a concern to parents, schools and the public.

Punch reported that one of those arrested was wearing a school uniform but was allegedly not a student. It also said some of the suspects were in SS1 and SS2, not final-year students as first presumed.

The Adamawa State Commandant, Nasiru Saleh, urged parents and school authorities to warn students against activities that could lead to violence, public nuisance or other offences.

The case is being treated as a school-safety and public-order matter. The reports did not state that the students had been charged in court as of the time of publication.
