NaijaTrend explainsPetrol prices: what the N66 discount and the N1,350 ceiling mean for youWhat it means for you

The N66-a-litre petrol discount NNPC Limited began on October 1 applies only to customers who pay through the NNPC Fuel App at NNPC Retail stations, according to staff at the stations in Abuja and news reports.

At the stations in mid-October, paying through the app brought the price to N1,339 a litre, against N1,405 at the pump, Tribune reported. Customers who pay by other means are charged the full pump price.

An NNPC notice reported by Vanguard had suggested October 14 as an end date, but NNPC spokesperson Andy Odeh later said the discount runs until October 31.

Finance Minister Taiwo Oyedele, who announced the discount on October 8, said NNPC would sell at cost and give priority to public transport operators, describing the measure as a 30-day intervention.

NNPC has said the discount is not a return of fuel subsidy and does not set a uniform national pump price.
