Nnamdi Kanu’s Lawyers Threaten Action Over TV Guest’s Kill Remark

Nnamdi Kanu’s legal team has threatened legal action after a television guest allegedly urged the Federal Government to kill the detained IPOB leader.

The lawyers said the comment, attributed to Chigozie Nnabugwu during a News Central TV programme, amounted to a call for extrajudicial killing and posed a threat to Kanu’s life. They demanded a public retraction and an apology from the broadcaster.

Kanu’s special counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, said the legal team was reviewing possible criminal, civil and regulatory steps against Nnabugwu and News Central Television.

Daily Post reported that the lawyers linked the alleged comment to Section 24(1) of the Cybercrimes Act, which deals with electronic messages that threaten life or may cause a breakdown of law and order. They also warned that broadcasting such remarks while Kanu’s case remains before the court could raise contempt concerns.

Punch reported that the remark triggered criticism on social media, where many users argued that Kanu’s fate must be decided through the courts and not through calls for violence.

Kanu remains one of the country’s most sensitive security and legal figures because of the long-running IPOB case and the wider instability in parts of the South-East.
