The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has forecast dust haze in the North and thunderstorms in parts of central and southern Nigeria from Monday to Wednesday.
Its outlook, released in Abuja on Sunday, predicts moderate haze in parts of Kano, Jigawa, Bauchi and Kaduna on Monday, with slight dust haze across much of the northern region.
Isolated thunderstorms with light rain are expected in parts of Taraba on Monday afternoon or evening. In the North-Central region, NiMet forecasts a sunny morning with some cloud, followed by isolated thunderstorms over parts of Kogi, Kwara, Benue and the FCT.
For the South, light morning rain is forecast in parts of Delta and Bayelsa. Thunderstorms with moderate rain are expected later over parts of Ondo, Ogun, Osun and Ekiti, as well as the South-East and South-South.
Daily Post reported the outlook. For Tuesday, the agency expects sunny and hazy conditions in the North, while parts of Kogi, Kwara and Benue may have afternoon or evening thunderstorms with light rain. Much of the South is forecast to have thunderstorms and moderate rain later in the day.
On Wednesday, slight dust haze is expected across most northern areas. Parts of Imo, Abia and Anambra may have thunderstorms and light rain after a cloudy morning, while parts of the South-West and South-South may also receive light rain later.
NiMet advised people, particularly those with asthma or other respiratory conditions, to take precautions against suspended dust particles.
The agency warned that strong winds could come before thunderstorms. It urged residents to secure loose objects and avoid sheltering under tall trees, where falling branches could cause injuries.
