NDLEA Intercepts N6.2bn Captagon, Opioids At Lagos Airport

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency says it has intercepted Captagon and opioid consignments valued at more than N6.2 billion at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.

The agency said the Captagon seizure followed the arrest of Akinbile Kazeem Aikins, a 49-year-old cross-border suspect who arrived from Accra, Ghana, on August 22. NDLEA said officers found 47,200 Captagon pills concealed inside blocks of local Ghanaian soap in a carton he carried.

NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi said the Captagon haul alone was valued at more than N1.5 billion. The agency also reported the seizure of more than 3.9 million opioid tablets, including tramadol, tapentadol and carisoprodol, with a combined street value that took the total haul above N6.2 billion.

The reports said the Lagos airport operation was part of a wider series of NDLEA interceptions. The agency linked the case to ongoing efforts to stop synthetic drugs and high-strength opioids from moving through Nigeria’s airports and logistics channels.
