NDLEA Intercepts Fuel Tanker Carrying 2.1 Tonnes Of Cannabis
NDLEA operatives have intercepted a 20,000-litre fuel tanker allegedly fitted with a hidden compartment and loaded with 2,145 kilogrammes of cannabis.
The tanker, marked MKA 960 XC, was stopped along the Akoko-Lokoja Expressway in Ondo State on Friday, September 4, 2026. The agency said the driver fled after abandoning the vehicle at a church premises in Ugbe Akoko.
A search of the tanker uncovered 165 bags of cannabis hidden in a false compartment, alongside legitimate fuel cargo reportedly heading to Jos, Plateau State.
NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi said the vehicle had become known for evading arrest. The agency said the seizure formed part of wider operations across several states.
Daily Post also reported that the agency arrested 34-year-old Dunu Bethel Ebubechukwu, a convicted cocaine trafficker, over a separate cocaine consignment allegedly concealed in phone chargers and destined for Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The tanker seizure adds to recent NDLEA operations targeting hidden drug movements through commercial cargo, vehicles and courier routes.
