NDLEA Arrests Brazil-Based Businessman Over 6.1kg Liquid Cocaine From Brazil

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 41-year-old businessman based in São Paulo, Brazil, Abugu Oliver Ikechukwu, for allegedly importing 6.10 kilograms of liquid cocaine concealed in shirts and towels into Nigeria.

NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, said in a statement on Sunday that the suspect was arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, on his arrival from Brazil via Addis Ababa aboard an Ethiopian Airlines flight on June 11, 2026.

Babafemi said a thorough search of the suspect’s luggage led to the discovery of 14 towels and shirts impregnated with liquid cocaine, which had been dried and carefully ironed to avoid detection.

The suspect reportedly told investigators he had lived in Brazil for more than 14 years, where he operates an African restaurant, and that he travelled to Nigeria to visit his wife and purchase food items for his business.

NDLEA also announced the arrest of a 60-year-old woman, Chidimma Sunday, and a 28-year-old man, Abubakar Usman, both persons with disabilities, over alleged involvement in illicit drug trafficking, with seizures of skunk, methamphetamine, tramadol, swinol and diazepam.

In Delta State, operatives arrested a 36-year-old suspect at Ogwashi-Uku, recovering five gas cylinders used to conceal 2.8 kilograms of Loud, a potent strain of cannabis.

The agency said the operations underscored its continued focus on intercepting narcotics at airports, on highways and in local communities.
