The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency says it has arrested a 101-year-old woman in Ogun State over cannabis packed in retail sachets.

The agency identified the woman as Esther Ogunmabo and said she was arrested in Ilisan on Saturday, August 15, with 90 grammes of skunk, a strain of cannabis.

NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi said Ogunmabo told operatives she began selling the drug after her provisions shop was destroyed by fire. She also alleged that one of her daughters in Lagos supplied the cannabis to her every four days for retail sale.

The agency said its chairman, Mohamed Buba Marwa, directed that Ogunmabo be granted bail and referred for counselling because of her age. It said the daughter accused of supplying the substance was later arrested.

The same NDLEA statement also reported separate seizures, including cocaine hidden inside fufu and large consignments of cannabis indica, also known as Loud, at the Apapa and Lekki ports in Lagos.

Punch and Daily Post both reported the Ogun arrest and the wider NDLEA operations from the agency’s Sunday statement.
