NCDMB Seeks Chinese Manufacturing Partners For Nigeria’s Oil And Gas Supply Chain
The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board is seeking Chinese manufacturers as partners in building oil-and-gas equipment capacity in Nigeria, following meetings at an energy summit in Chengdu.
The board said it engaged more than 100 Chinese original-equipment manufacturers during the 15th China Shale Oil and Gas Summit, held from September 20 to 23. Its pitch goes beyond importing equipment: it wants investment in manufacturing and assembly, technology transfer and stronger links between Nigerian firms and international supply chains.
NCDMB presented the Nigerian Oil and Gas Park Scheme as one possible platform for factories, assembly facilities and service operations. Austin Uzoka, who represented the board’s executive secretary, Felix Omatsola Ogbe, said the local-content framework would support equipment manufacturing established in Nigeria. He also pointed to potential demand across the Gulf of Guinea.
A business-to-business session brought Nigerian industry representatives together with Chinese equipment makers to discuss local production, market access and technical cooperation. NCDMB said several participants expressed interest in exploring business relationships; it did not announce a signed manufacturing deal, an investment amount or a construction timetable.
For Nigerian suppliers, the proposal could create opportunities to produce or service equipment closer to the oil-and-gas projects that use it. Whether that happens will depend on the partnerships and investments that follow these discussions.
