Two people with suspected Ebola disease have been isolated in north-east Nigeria while health authorities test their samples and identify contacts, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) says.

The agency announced the development in an update on Saturday. It said contact identification and listing were under way.

Neither person has been confirmed to have Ebola. The NCDC said laboratory results would determine whether the suspected cases were infections.

The update did not identify the states where the two people were found or give a date for the test results.

The NCDC advised the public to maintain good hand hygiene, practise enhanced sanitation and follow guidance from public health authorities.

Nigeria confirmed an imported Ebola case in Abuja on 20 October. That patient was later evacuated to Switzerland with her husband on Monday.

The NCDC said further updates would be provided as verified information became available.
