Suspect arrested in connection with an alleged vehicle theft syndicate in Abuja

The Nigerian Navy has arrested a suspect linked to a vehicle theft syndicate said to be responsible for stealing more than 50 vehicles across the Federal Capital Territory.

Vanguard and Daily Post reported that operatives of Naval Base Abuja carried out the operation as part of intelligence-led security efforts in collaboration with sister agencies.

Navy spokesperson Captain Abiodun Folorunsho said the suspect, identified by Daily Post as Habeeb Ajadi, was intercepted while attempting to leave the FCT.

According to the naval account, preliminary investigation indicated that the suspect allegedly impersonated an inspector of the Nigerian Correctional Service to aid his activities. He was also said to have confessed to involvement in a syndicate that stole vehicles from different parts of the FCT.

The Navy said the network operated across state boundaries, with stolen vehicles allegedly disposed of through accomplices outside Abuja. The suspect, relevant exhibits and evidence have been handed over to the Nigeria Police Force, FCT Command, for further investigation and prosecution.
