NAFDAC Warns Over Suspected Counterfeit Asthma Medicine

NAFDAC has warned Nigerians about a suspected counterfeit asthma medicine found in the market.
The agency said the product is being sold as Ulmicort 0.5 mg/ml Inhalation Suspension and could be confused with Pulmicort, a budesonide medicine made by AstraZeneca for asthma care.
NAFDAC said AstraZeneca reported the product after market surveillance. The suspected counterfeit was traced to Eastern Nigeria, including a distributor address at 15 Chizzon, Awada, Obosi North, Anambra State.
The agency warned that counterfeit medicines may contain wrong ingredients, unsafe quantities or contaminants, and could worsen respiratory conditions or cause treatment failure.
NAFDAC listed the suspected product’s batch number as 25770416E, with a June 2025 manufacturing date and May 2027 expiry date.
