More than 20 people have been reported killed after attackers struck Binper, also known as Bwai, in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Residents said the attack happened overnight, with several people also injured and houses affected. The casualty figures varied slightly across reports, but the accounts pointed to the same community and the same overnight violence.

Security authorities were expected to give further details on the attack and the response by troops and police. Local accounts said some victims were killed inside their homes as the attackers moved through the community.

The incident is the latest in a long run of deadly attacks in Plateau communities, where residents have repeatedly accused security agencies of arriving after attackers had left. Community leaders again called for stronger protection for rural settlements.

The reports did not give a final official casualty count by press time. This article uses “more than 20” because the reports agree on that threshold while further official confirmation is still expected.
