Military Identifies Wanted ISWAP Commanders From Recovered Devices
The military says troops have identified senior ISWAP commanders after recovering intelligence devices during operations around the Lake Chad Basin.
Premium Times reported that the named commanders include Abu Musa Al-Mangawi Baa Shuwa, described as the Wali of ISWAP, his deputy Muhammad Jidda, also known as “The One-Handed Man”, and Hamad Abu Hanifa.
The military said the recovered materials included technical devices and a camcorder allegedly used for propaganda videos and operational records. It said forensic checks linked the suspects to activity around the Mangari, Metele and Dogon Chukun axis in Abadam and Kukawa local government areas of Borno State.
Captain Muhammed Goni, the acting military information officer for Operation Hadin Kai, said the intelligence was gathered after recent offensive operations against ISWAP fighters in the Lake Chad area. The military asked members of the public to give security agencies credible information on the identified commanders.
Punch reported that the army placed a combined N60 million reward on Abu Musa Al-Mangawi Baa Shuwa and Muhammad Jidda for information leading to their capture. Premium Times confirmed the wanted-commanders list and the recovered-device account, but did not report the reward figure.
