Lekan Alabi, the Abese Olubadan of Ibadanland and a veteran journalist, has died at the age of 76.

He died on Saturday morning in Lagos, according to a statement from Adeola Oloko, media aide to the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja.

Alabi was a former press secretary to several Oyo State governors and was widely known in Ibadan public life as a journalist, public relations practitioner, author and cultural figure.

The statement said he would be buried on Sunday in line with Islamic rites.

Vanguard reported that Alabi served as Chief Press Secretary to successive governors in Oyo State and was also known for work on Ibadan and Yoruba history.

Tributes were expected from media colleagues, traditional institutions and political figures who worked with him across decades of public service.
