Lagos Pensioners Give Sanwo-Olu August 31 Ultimatum Over Pension Increase

Retirees under the Contributory Pension Scheme in Lagos State have given Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu until August 31 to address their demand for pension enhancement and wage award payments.

The pensioners, under the Nigeria Union of Pensioners Contributory Pension Scheme, warned that they could stage a major protest if the state government fails to act before the deadline.

Daily Post and Punch reported that the retirees are asking the government to implement pension increases tied to previous wage adjustments. They said many members have continued to struggle with rising living costs while waiting for the review to reflect in their payments.

The Lagos chapter chairman of the group, according to the reports, said the retirees had already written to the state government and expected a concrete response before the end of the month.

The demand puts fresh pressure on the state government over pension obligations and the wider cost-of-living burden facing retired public workers.
