Kogi Varsity Expels Two Students, Rusticates Four Others

Confluence University of Science and Technology, Osara, has expelled two students and rusticated four others after disciplinary proceedings approved by the university senate.

The Kogi university said the two expulsions followed allegations of same-sex conduct, while the four one-session rustications were linked to a fight on campus. The sanctions were announced in letters signed by the Deputy Registrar, Academics, Eli Gbadafu.

The university said the decisions followed recommendations of the Students’ Disciplinary Committee and were ratified at the 31st regular meeting of its senate. It also said the actions were taken under the Students’ Handbook, Second Edition, as amended in 2025.

Premium Times reported that Nigeria’s same-sex marriage law, enacted in 2014, provides criminal penalties for same-sex relations. The university reports did not disclose detailed evidence beyond the disciplinary findings announced by the institution.

The management said it would continue to enforce campus rules and maintain what it described as a disciplined environment for teaching and learning.
