Keyamo Asks IATA To Review Osubi Airport’s Location Code

The Federal Government has asked the International Air Transport Association to review the three-letter code assigned to Osubi Airport in Delta State, saying it should better reflect the airport’s official name and location.

Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo made the request in a letter to IATA’s West and Central Africa area manager, according to Daily Trust. The airport currently uses the IATA location code QRW and the ICAO indicator DNSU.

Osubi Airport is near Warri and serves the wider Warri metropolitan area, but the government says its official geographical designation is Osubi. Keyamo asked IATA to consider an available alternative linked more clearly to Osubi, subject to the association’s coding procedures.

The minister also directed airlines, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria and the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency to use the Osubi designation consistently in tickets, baggage tags, boarding passes, records and operational systems.

The requested IATA review has not yet resulted in a code change. The government says clearer naming could reduce confusion for passengers and airlines using travel and ticketing systems.
