The Kano State Fire Service says it contained two separate fire outbreaks that affected an Access Bank branch in Dawanau, Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area, and a residential building in Sabuwar Gandu, Sheka Gari, Kumbotso Local Government Area.

The service said the first incident was reported at about 1:17pm on Monday after a caller alerted emergency responders to a blaze at the bank branch. Firefighters from the Dawanau Fire Station moved to the scene and found a one-storey building in flames.

Daily Trust and Punch reported that the fire affected a generator and part of an electrical transformer at the bank premises. A second fire was reported later in the day at about 6:19pm in Kumbotso.

The Fire Service Public Relations Officer, Saminu Abdullahi, said firefighters contained both incidents. The reports did not mention any deaths from the two outbreaks.

The service urged residents to call emergency responders quickly when fire incidents occur, especially during the dry season and in areas with electrical equipment or fuel-powered generators.
