Jigawa Police Arrest Suspects Over Gujungu Market Violence
Police in Jigawa have arrested suspects over violence linked to Gujungu Market in Taura Local Government Area, where security operatives said a vigilante member was killed and several people were injured.
The unrest followed a July 26 confrontation involving traders, security personnel and residents around the market. Police said weapons and other exhibits were recovered during follow-up operations.
Punch reported that nine people were arrested in connection with the violence. Daily Post, citing the state police command, reported eight arrests over alleged killings during the same Gujungu Market incident. The difference in the figures was not reconciled in the reports.
The police command said the suspects would be charged after investigation. It also said officers were deployed to prevent further violence in the area.
The reports link the market unrest to deaths and injuries. Both accounts agree on the Gujungu Market violence, the police response and the killing of a vigilante member, but they differ on whether eight or nine suspects were arrested.
