Jalingo nursing students protest after alleged hostel attack
Students of the Taraba State College of Nursing Sciences in Jalingo protested on Monday after an alleged overnight attack on a female hostel outside the school’s main premises.
The reports said hoodlums entered the hostel in the early hours of Monday, stole phones and other belongings, and allegedly sexually assaulted a female student. The student was taken for treatment after the attack, according to the reports.
Students gathered to demand stronger security around hostels used by the college. The protest followed complaints that students living outside the main campus had become vulnerable to repeated raids and robberies.
Daily Trust reported that a students’ union official, who asked not to be named, said the latest incident had deepened fear among students. Daily Post also reported that the protest was peaceful and centred on calls for urgent protection.
The reports said security operatives later moved to calm the situation. The reported victim is not being named because the story involves an allegation of sexual assault.
