INEC Rejects Jonathan Nomination Submitted By PDP Faction

INEC has rejected a presidential nomination for former President Goodluck Jonathan after a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party said it manually submitted his name and those of other candidates for the 2027 elections.

The dispute centres on the Kabiru Turaki-led PDP faction, which said it turned in the list by hand after failing to get access codes for the commission’s electronic nomination platform.

INEC’s Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Victoria Eta-Messi, told Vanguard that candidate submission is done only through the dedicated portal set out in the commission’s rules and guidelines.

Daily Trust reported that the faction said its candidates were validly nominated under the Electoral Act and warned INEC against publishing any other list. The report said INEC had recognised the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led leadership after court disputes over the party’s convention.

The development extends the PDP’s internal fight into the 2027 nomination process, with one side insisting on manual filing and the electoral commission maintaining that nominations must go through its official electronic channel.
