The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has deployed the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 4, Dankombo Morris, and tactical teams to Plateau State after the recent attack on Kawel community in Bokkos Local Government Area.

Vanguard reported that the deployment followed the attack in Mushere District and was meant to assess the security situation, restore calm and prevent further violence in the affected communities. Daily Trust also reported the deployment and said two herders were killed in a fresh ambush.

The IGP also approved additional police personnel, Police Mobile Force operatives and operational assets for communities affected by the violence, according to Vanguard.

During a visit to Bokkos, AIG Morris met local government officials, traditional rulers and other stakeholders. Bokkos council chairman Amalau Samuel Amalau welcomed the deployment and appealed for sustained security presence.

The report follows NaijaTrend’s earlier coverage of the Kawel/Bokkos attack and differing casualty figures here. This update is focused on the police response and the fresh ambush report.

Women in Politics Initiative’s Plateau chair, Hajara Yunana, also raised concern over the impact of the attack on women and families, Vanguard reported.
