Ibadan Gridlock as Take It Back Movement Blocks Iwo Road Over abducted Oyo Schoolchildren

Motorists and commuters along the busy Iwo Road interchange in Ibadan, Oyo State, had a difficult time on Monday as protesters under the Take It Back Movement blocked the major traffic corridor to demand the release of abducted schoolchildren and teachers from Orire Local Government Area.

The protest, which began around 10am, brought gridlock to one of the busiest transport arteries in the state as demonstrators gathered with banners calling for an end to kidnapping and the immediate freedom of the victims.

The National Coordinator of the Take It Back Movement, Juwon Sanyaolu, who spoke during the protest, said the demonstration was part of ongoing efforts by the group since the abduction of children and teachers from Orire LGA in May.

“We will continue to protest until all abducted victims are released. Government officials remain comfortable in their offices while innocent students and teachers are languishing in captivity,” Sanyaolu said.

He also criticised political leaders for focusing on preparations for the 2027 general elections while insecurity continues to threaten the lives of Nigerians, a point corroborated in Daily Post’s coverage of the protest.

Daily Post separately reported Sanyaolu as saying: “The state and federal governments must act, or they will continue to witness mass action. We are demanding freedom for all captives in the North, South, East and West of Nigeria.”

The protest led to a heavy traffic build-up around the Iwo Road axis, forcing many motorists to seek alternative routes while some commuters were forced to trek while the protest lasted.
