Three Kaduna State Vigilance Service members have been killed after gunmen opened fire during a security check in Kubau Local Government Area.

The attack happened on Monday along the Zaria-Pambegua road, according to details reported by Daily Trust and Daily Post.

KADVIS spokesman Yunusa Shehu Ibrahim said the personnel tried to stop a red Volkswagen Golf saloon car during routine checks, but the driver refused to stop. The vigilance members pursued the vehicle in an official patrol van to identify its occupants.

The armed men then opened fire. Daily Trust identified the dead as Dallami Dantani, Abdullahi Hamisu and Zakariyya Musa.

The attackers later returned towards the KADVIS office and opened fire again before fleeing towards Zaria, according to the reports. Kaduna State KADVIS commander Ali Audu condoled with the families of the victims and described their deaths as a loss to the service.

The killing adds to security concerns on rural routes in Kaduna, where local vigilance groups often support police and other security agencies in patrols and community-level response.
