Gunmen Kill 85-Year-Old Edo Community Secretary
Gunmen have killed an 85-year-old community secretary in Edo State, prompting a police investigation into the attack near Benin City.
The victim, Reuben Owie, was the secretary of Iyowa community in Ovia North-East Local Government Area. He was reportedly shot at his residence in Iguosa, near Okhunhun, on August 2.
Daily Post reported that two unidentified armed men attacked Owie at about 8:15pm. The report said the Edo State Police Command confirmed the killing in a statement issued on Saturday.
Daily Trust also reported the same incident, identifying Owie as a community leader and saying the case was reported by his son, Osayomwanbo Owie. The report said the attack happened at No. 2 Abu Street, Iguosa, off Okhunhun Road, Benin City.
Police said they had begun an investigation and appealed for useful information that could help trace the attackers. No arrest was reported.
