Gunmen Abduct Worshippers During Friday Prayers In Niger
Gunmen have abducted worshippers during Friday prayers in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.
The attackers reportedly stormed communities in the area shortly after Juma’at prayers, taking away an unspecified number of people and leaving some residents injured.
Vanguard cited residents and the federal lawmaker representing the area, Jafar Muhammad Shetiman Borgu, as saying the attacks affected Dekara, Gidan Zana, Sabon Gida and Masaka. The report said the attackers surrounded a mosque in Dekara before moving into neighbouring communities.
Premium Times also reported the abduction of worshippers during Friday prayers in Borgu, noting that the number of victims had not been confirmed at the time of its report.
The latest attack adds to months of insecurity around Borgu and the wider Kainji Lake area. Premium Times reported earlier attacks in the local government this year, including deadly raids and abductions in Kasuwan-Daji, Tunga-Makeri, Konkoso, Pissa and other communities.
Security agencies had not issued a detailed public update on the Friday prayer abductions at the time of the reports.
