Gov Mbah Inspects ESN Arms Cache Recovered by DSS, Army in Enugu
Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State on Friday commended the Department of State Services, DSS, the Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Police for their commitment to securing the Southeast, after inspecting a large arms cache recovered from commanders of the outlawed Eastern Security Network, ESN.
According to Vanguard, the inspection took place at the Enugu State DSS headquarters. During the raid on the ESN armoury, DSS operatives backed by troops of the 82 Division recovered a rocket launcher, two rocket-propelled grenade warheads, three RPG chargers, 11 AK-47 rifles, and over 610 rounds of NATO 7.62×39 mm ammunition, alongside NYSC uniforms and lanyards.
Governor Mbah was accompanied by the Division’s Garrison Commander, Brigadier General Abubakar Suru, and the state Commissioner of Police, Bitrus Giwa. He said that but for the diligence and intelligence of the DSS and sister agencies, the arms would have been used by ESN terrorists to wreck havoc across the South and create the false impression that insecurity had taken over the region.
The governor also called on Nigerians, irrespective of political and religious affiliations, to support President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to tackle insecurity, thanking the President for backing states on security.
Security sources disclosed that the raid on the ESN armoury followed intelligence from arrested ESN members that the group was planning to unleash terror on Enugu and other Southeast states. The Enugu recovery came shortly before a Federal High Court in Abuja sentenced five members of a notorious bandit gang to 25 years in prison for assisting gunmen who abducted students and staff of St. Mary’s Catholic School in Papiri, Niger State, in November 2025.
