Students gathered at the Federal University of Technology Minna gate during a protest

Students of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, protested on Tuesday over rising robbery attacks and insecurity affecting students around the campus.

Premium Times, Daily Trust and Daily Post reported that the students blocked the Minna-Bida Road before moving to the university’s main gate.

Daily Post reported that the protest disrupted academic activities and prevented senior officials and members of management from entering the campus.

Daily Trust reported that the students initially blocked the road early in the morning, leaving travellers stranded, before locking out the vice chancellor and other officials.

The reports said the protest was linked to repeated robbery attacks on students living off campus.

Daily Post reported that a student was allegedly killed during a robbery attack three days earlier, while another attack on Monday night reportedly left several students injured.

The protest also affected scheduled academic activities, including a computer aptitude semester test for some students.
