Fresh Lakurawa Threats Revive Fears In Niger State, IGP Orders Intervention
Fresh threats from suspected Lakurawa terrorists have revived fears in Niger State, with the Deputy Inspector General of Police confirming that the Inspector General has ordered immediate intervention.
Daily Post reported that DIG Isyaku Mohammed, in charge of Training and Development and coordinating DIG for the North-Central zone, disclosed this during a two-day visit to the Niger State Police Command headquarters in Minna.
The threats emerged after suspected Lakurawa terrorists blocked the New Bussa road in Borgu Local Government Area and issued warnings of planned attacks on Friday.
DIG Mohammed said he had directed the Commissioner of Police to draw up an intervention plan and assured that the IGP would intervene. He said a School Protection Unit headed by a Chief Superintendent of Police had been activated.
The visit came two weeks after rumours of bandit attacks on schools triggered panic in the state. The IGP has deployed all DIGs to their respective geo-political zones to coordinate security responses.
