Four die in Lagos-Ibadan Expressway crash near Ipara Remo

Four people have died after an early-morning crash on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State.

The crash happened around 4am on Wednesday near Straight Gate School, Ipara Remo, along the Ibadan-Lagos route. Reports said a blue Mitsubishi Canter with registration number FGE 753 XA collided with an ash-coloured HOWO truck with registration number T-695 KT.

The Federal Road Safety Corps in Ogun State said eight people were involved. Four male adults died, one male adult was injured, and three people escaped unhurt.

FRSC spokesperson Afolabi Odunsi said preliminary findings pointed to speeding and wrongful overtaking. The reports said the Mitsubishi driver was travelling at high speed and rammed into the moving truck while trying to overtake, with fatigue also listed as a contributing factor.

Rescue officials said they received the report at 4:33am and arrived at the scene six minutes later. The bodies were taken to a morgue, while the injured victim was taken for treatment.

The crash came amid wider disruption on the Lagos-Ibadan corridor, where repair works and earlier crashes have slowed movement around parts of the expressway.
