Bello Mandiya, a former senator who represented Katsina South in the National Assembly, has died at the age of 62.

Premium Times reported that Mandiya died on Monday in Abuja, with the Katsina State Government confirming the death. Ibrahim Mohammed, chief press secretary to Governor Dikko Radda, told the outlet that the former senator would be buried in Abuja on Tuesday. The cause of death was not immediately known.

Daily Post reported that the funeral prayer will hold at 11:00 a.m. at the Apo Legislative Quarters in Abuja, citing an announcement by a close associate, Malam Maiwada DanMalam.

Governor Radda expressed sadness over the death, describing it as a great loss to Katsina State and Nigeria. “Senator Mandiya dedicated part of his life to public service and served our people with commitment. His contributions will remain remembered,” the governor said.

Mandiya was elected to represent Katsina South, also known as the Funtua Senatorial District, on the platform of the All Progressives Congress in 2019 and served in the ninth National Assembly until 2023. Before his election to the Senate, he served as chief of staff to former Katsina State Governor Aminu Masari.
