Fire Guts Lagos Island Building Housing Polaris Bank Branch
A fire broke out on Thursday at a multi-storey building housing a Polaris Bank branch on Broad Street, Lagos Island, forcing occupants and nearby business operators to move to safety.
Vanguard reported that thick smoke was seen billowing from the building as emergency responders moved into the busy commercial district to contain the blaze.
The incident was reported around late morning, with personnel of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and other emergency teams deployed to the scene.
According to Vanguard, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service later confirmed that the fire had been extinguished.
SaharaReporters said the cause of the fire had not been determined at the time of its report, while authorities had not released a full damage assessment.
No casualties or injuries had been confirmed at press time, according to the SaharaReporters account.
Punch also reported the fire at the Lagos Island building and carried a source image from the scene.
The Broad Street axis is one of Lagos Island’s busiest commercial corridors, so even a contained fire quickly drew public attention and emergency-response concern.
NaijaTrend is avoiding unverified fatality claims circulating outside the confirmed reports until emergency agencies or police provide an official update.
