A fire broke out at Purple Crown Hotel on Balogun Street, along Awolowo Road in Ikeja, Lagos, on Saturday, but emergency officials reported no casualties.

The blaze affected a room on the first floor of the hotel before responders brought it under control. The incident caused panic around the area, but the fire was contained before it spread through the building.

Lagos State Emergency Management Agency Permanent Secretary Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu said the agency received a distress call at 9:52am and activated its Tiger Squad from the Command and Control Centre in Alausa. Vanguard reported an eyewitness account that the fire started around 9:30am.

Emergency teams at the scene included LASEMA responders, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, LASTMA officials and police officers. The reports said investigators were still expected to determine the cause of the fire.

The Purple Crown Hotel building was visibly smoke-filled during the response, with people gathered outside as hoses were deployed into the premises.
