FG Prepares Compensation Forms For Nigerians Hit By South Africa Attacks

The Federal Government says it is preparing forms for Nigerians who lost property during recent attacks in South Africa, as Abuja moves toward formal compensation claims.

Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sola Enikanolaiye said the forms will help document losses before Nigeria returns to negotiations with the South African government. He spoke after briefing President Bola Tinubu on a meeting with South Africa’s Foreign Minister Ronald Lamola.

Enikanolaiye said Nigeria wants to proceed with data on the losses suffered by affected citizens, rather than rely on estimates. Punch reported that Lamola visited Abuja as a special envoy of President Cyril Ramaphosa after the attacks on Nigerian nationals strained relations between the two countries.

Channels TV separately reported that anti-foreigner pressure and enforcement in South Africa had triggered the departure of more than 160,000 migrants, based on AFP figures from African governments repatriating their citizens. The report said farms, factories and households were already feeling labour shortages after the departures.
