The federal government has cancelled admissions to the National Teachers’ Institute (NTI) in Kaduna for its National Certificate in Education (NCE) and degree programmes in the 2026 academic session.

The Federal Ministry of Education announced the decision in a statement signed by its Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade, on Saturday.

The ban covers full-time, part-time and distance-learning admissions. The ministry told applicants not to submit applications, accept offers or pay for the affected programmes.

It also ordered NTI to end its university affiliations and degree-awarding arrangements, saying the institute was not authorised to award NCE or university degrees.

The ministry said the action followed breaches of operational guidelines issued on 12 September 2025. It said NCE admissions must meet JAMB requirements and National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) accreditation standards.

The National Universities Commission is to notify affected universities and enforce the order on degree arrangements.

For existing students, the NCCE will assess NCE II–IV distance-learning programmes and study centres across the six geopolitical zones. The ministry said eligible students could complete their studies, depending on accreditation results and regulatory requirements.
