FCT Police Rescue Four Kidnap Victims After Mpape Gun Duel
Police in the Federal Capital Territory say they have rescued four people abducted from the Mpape area of Abuja after a gun battle with suspected kidnappers.
The command said the attack happened around 10:40 p.m. on July 8 at Yellow House in Mpape. Suspected kidnappers reportedly shot two people before taking four others away through Jikoko Hills towards Ushafa Forest.
FCT police spokesperson Josephine Adeh said officers from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Katampe and Mpape divisions, and the 24 Police Mobile Force Squadron were deployed after a distress call.
The police said the rescued victims were found after officers tracked the attackers through the hills and exchanged fire with them. Vanguard reported that one of the injured victims, identified only as Mr Babangida, later died while receiving treatment.
Daily Post reported that the FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, urged residents to stay alert and report suspicious movement early.
The command said it had intensified patrols around Mpape and neighbouring communities after the incident.
