FCT police arrest about 300 in Abuja flashpoint raids
Police in the Federal Capital Territory have arrested about 300 people for screening after raids on suspected crime flashpoints in Abuja.
The operation took place on Saturday, September 19, across shanties, uncompleted buildings and other areas identified by police intelligence as possible criminal hideouts.
The FCT Police Command said the suspects were being screened and profiled. Those linked to offences would be charged to court, while people cleared after the screening would be released.
The command said officers recovered knives, a toy gun, cannabis and other illicit drugs during the raids. Daily Post reported that the operation was announced by the command spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, while Channels TV also reported the recovered items and the screening process.
Commissioner of Police Ahmed Sanusi said the command would continue intelligence-led raids in areas considered security risks. He also warned residents, especially young people, against drug abuse, which he said could worsen community security problems.
