Smoke rises during the Lagos airport Terminal 2 fire incident

A fire broke out at Lagos airport Terminal 2 on Sunday, drawing an emergency response at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria said its Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Service responded to the incident and worked to contain the situation. FAAN said no casualty or loss of life had been recorded.

The authority confirmed the incident in a statement posted on its official X handle. Punch also reported that the fire disrupted flights at the terminal, while the agency said further updates would be provided as more information became available.

The reports did not give a confirmed cause of the fire. They focused mainly on the response by airport firefighters and FAAN’s assurance that no death or injury had been reported.

Terminal 2 is part of the airport complex serving domestic passengers in Lagos, so even a contained fire can quickly affect travellers and airport workers around the building.
