The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria says it has heightened health surveillance across airport operations following the confirmed Ebola case in Abuja.
The authority is working with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, Port Health Services, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority and other agencies on the response.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, October 20, FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Henry Agbebire, asked passengers, airlines and airport workers to remain calm and cooperate with health officials.
FAAN said it would continue to follow public health guidance and support any additional measures considered necessary to protect passengers, airport personnel and the wider public.
The announcement follows the federal government’s confirmation of an Ebola infection in a woman receiving care in isolation in the FCT. Health Minister Muhammad Pate said 44 contacts had been identified for monitoring. NaijaTrend reported the confirmation and contact-tracing response here.
The airport authority urged the public to rely on verified information and avoid circulating unconfirmed reports.
