EFCC Extradites Two Nigerians To US Over Sextortion Case

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has extradited two Nigerians to the United States to face prosecution over alleged online sexual exploitation and sextortion involving minors.

The agency said its Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 facilitated the extradition of Mudashiru Afeez Olawale and Adebola Festus Adekunle on Wednesday, August 26, 2026.

Punch and Vanguard reported that the case followed separate FBI investigations into alleged sextortion schemes targeting teenage boys in the United States. The reports said investigators alleged that the schemes involved threats to publish intimate images unless victims paid money through channels including remitters, gift cards and cryptocurrency.

The EFCC said American investigators linked the suspects to two cases in which minors later died by suicide. The allegations involve minors and pending foreign prosecution, so the men are described only as suspects unless a court records a conviction.

The case moved through Nigerian courts before the extraditions. Vanguard reported that a Federal High Court in Lagos initially refused an extradition application in June 2024, before the Attorney-General’s office appealed. The Court of Appeal later allowed the extradition process to proceed.

The men are expected to face the charges in the United States. The reports did not say that they had been convicted.
