Edo Issues Licences For 100MW Power Project, Targets 2026 Completion

Edo State has issued transmission and distribution licences to CCETC Ogua Energy Limited for a 100MW power project in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area.

The state government says the project is expected to be completed and commissioned before the end of 2026, though officials left room for an extension if major technical or regulatory problems delay the final phase.

Power Commissioner Paul Usenbo disclosed the development in Benin City while presenting the licence certificate to the company. Punch and Vanguard reported that the first phase of the project was completed in July 2026 and that attention has now moved to the second and final phase.

Usenbo said most major milestones are expected to be substantially achieved by October, provided there are no unforeseen challenges. He added that the government would consider more time if the developers face serious obstacles before completion.

The commissioner said generation equipment was already arriving at the project site and expressed confidence that installation could be completed within the current timeline. The state government says the project is part of its plan to improve electricity supply and support local economic activity.
