DSS Arrests Three More Suspects In Nasarawa Professor Kidnap Case

The Department of State Services has arrested three more suspects linked to the kidnapping of Professor Samuel Avengbe Okunsebor, the Dean of Agriculture at Nasarawa State University.

Okunsebor was abducted in the early hours of July 15 at Mile Uku, a border community between Lafia and Nasarawa-Eggon Local Government Areas. He was rescued by DSS operatives two days later.

Vanguard and Daily Trust both reported that the latest arrests were made on Friday night at a local brothel along the Mararaban Akunza-Lafia-Makurdi highway. The reports said the arrests followed the earlier detention of two suspects, including a woman.

The suspects were identified in the reports as 25-year-old Yakubu Abubakar, also known as Black or Starboy, from Plateau State; 37-year-old Usman Abubakar Mairiga; and 27-year-old Sale Babauro Abubakar.

Daily Trust reported that the suspects were in the custody of the state command for further investigation. Vanguard also reported that the move followed a valid detention warrant obtained after an application to the court.

The development adds to the investigation into the kidnapping ring accused of targeting the university professor. Security agencies have not announced a trial date or formal charges for the newly arrested suspects.
